Dr. Russell believes that healing is best accomplished when there is a tailored, whole animal approach to each problem using whatever tools fit the patient and their guardian.
The veterinarians' job is to help the body heal in a gentle, quick and comprehensive way. The best case is when the regular veterinarian is part of the treatment plan and the care is integrated with the holistic veterinarians' knowledge base.
Dr. Russell is comfortable using acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy, nutrition, and Bach flowers. For the athlete, acupuncture might be all that is needed. For the cancer patient, a completely different plan is used. She believes that modern veterinary medicine has much to offer and often refers to conventional practitioners.
Pet of the Month
My name is Winston Ellis and I am a small white dog. Or that is how my mom and dad always describe me. Personally, I prefer to be known as large and in charge. While I’ll always keep some secrets, I will share with you how I came to live in the Ellis home during the summer of 2004 in Broken Arrow, OK. Showing up on their front porch was the end result of following the canine rescue railroad. I can tell you that there are actually safe houses identified on this map forcanines on the lamb and from what I understood, the Ellis’ were highly rated. After flirting around with them for a week, I finally let them “catch” me. They decided with the help of a veterinarian that I was somewhere in the range of one and two years old. Between that time and now has been glorious for us. I love to run and let my flowing locks fly. I also love to carry around my baby as shown (we’ll go with that explanation and not the thought that I would ever do this to moles out in the backyard!). There was no problem quickly letting my new siblings know that I was the sergeant in control of wanton frivolity. We will have no activity without my approval! After all, small white dogs do not like to be smuushed by other large life forms. This same understanding extends always to the dogs on the other side of the fence because you never know when they might decide to begin smuushing me.
Last year, I began having, uh, small problems with my bathroom habits. After great contemplation and medical evaluation, my parents chose to treat my new condition through an alternative path. That is when the great love of my life came into my world. Dr. Sherri Russell is pure wonderment. She cares about me and keeps my back and legs working. Mom and Dad have been great to help me outside and Mom even keeps me in the most stylish wraps. Yes, life is pretty good and I know that until the day that I can’t run and let everyone know that I am here, I’m in great hands with the care of Dr. Sherri and my loyal family.
